Are these templates really free?

Yes. Every template on this page is a free Excel download. You sign in once with Google to download; there is no payment and no form to fill in.

Which template do I need?

Work backwards from the document you have to produce. A bill of quantities needs the BOQ format. Reinforcement steel needs the bar bending schedule. Building a rate up from labour and material needs the analysis of rates. Taking off quantities from a drawing needs the detailed measurement sheet. Comparing quotations you have received needs the comparative statement. On most projects they chain together — you measure, you analyse a rate, you price the bill, and then you compare what the bidders quote against it.

Do the templates have working formulas, or are they just tables?

Working formulas throughout. Amounts, subtotals and abstracts calculate themselves; the measurement sheet totals by item code; the comparative statement finds and highlights the lowest rate on every line. Cells you are meant to fill and cells the sheet calculates are colour-coded, and each workbook opens on a tab explaining which is which.

Do the templates come with rates filled in?

No — with one deliberate exception. The analysis of rates workbook ships with illustrative placeholder rates so it computes something the moment you open it, and they are flagged inside the file as uncertified. They are not quoted figures and not tied to any published schedule. Replace them with your own quotations or your DSR edition before the output leaves your desk. Every workbook carries a rate basis declaration block for recording which basis, edition and date you used.

Can I use these templates for a real project?

Yes. They follow standard formats used across Indian residential construction. For reinforcement, you can also skip manual entry with the free bar bending schedule calculator, which computes cutting lengths and steel weight directly.
